Young people are at the core of the movement to end child marriage. As individuals, leaders and parents, they have the power to end this harmful practice within the next generation.
Girls Not Brides seeks to ground the Partnership in youth perspectives. We support young activists to meaningfully and actively participate at all levels of our movement.
From organising training on activism; providing practical tools for advocacy and collective action; spotlighting youth voices at international, regional and national advocacy moments and fora; raising awareness of funding opportunities; to offering a hub for resources on child marriage, we ensure that the Partnership’s initiatives are co-designed and led by dynamic young change makers.
The time for action is now – we know that if we work together with young leaders our movement will be stronger, more effective and relevant.
Ending child marriage requires long-term, sustainable funding, yet there is currently not enough funding available and we know that it can be particularly hard for youth-led and grassroots organisations to access the resources they need. Girls Not Brides support our member organisations to identify funding opportunities, connect with donors and build their fundraising skills. Working with donors and partners, we also advocate for greater funding to address child marriage, as well as bringing attention to funding gaps and evidence of effective investments.
Youth-led and grassroots organisations are at the forefront of coordinating community responses to child marriage, including during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Virtual conversations, online conferences and peer-to-peer sharing are key opportunities to strengthen our work, particularly as we adapt to the new landscape produced by COVID-19. Here you can find selected opportunities to engage with others who are working to ensure girls and women are not forgotten in this crisis.
Girls Not Brides has developed and researched a wide range of resources to support young people in leading local, national and global efforts to end child marriage and transform their communities. These are available in the Girls Not Brides’ Resource Centre and include practical tools such as the child marriage Atlas, advocacy and social media campaign toolkits, advocacy briefs, case studies and reports designed to support localised collective action.
